3 Good Habits to Become a Better Content Marketer

Content Marketer

1. Read new books

“A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone if it is to keep its edge.”  – Tyrion Lannister

The mind is a content marketer’s greatest weapon and to keep it sharp, you’ll have to read books all the time. Reading is the best way to stimulate and sharpen your mind and it also helps to improve your vocabulary and expand your knowledge.

I would recommend at least two books a week but if your schedule does not allow, try reading at least one book every fortnight. Do it while you are commuting, read when you have pockets of spare time.

2. Observe and analyse the noise around you

We spend a lot of time online and like it or not; we are constantly bombarded by brand messages. When you are online, the time spent can be utilised more productively by observing and analysing the brand messages you come across.

The next time you look at your inbox, look out for the emails that were sent out by a brand you subscribe to as well as ads you see on Gmail’s Promotions tab. When on Facebook/Instagram, look out for sponsored content from a brand. When browsing YouTube, check out the ads before you click on the skip button.

Learn from good practices and see how you can implement similar approaches to your brand, also look out for bad practices and see how you could improve on them.

Go a step further by recording your analysis on a note-keeping app such as Evernote, take screenshots and write down your review. Make it a habit and analyse at least 1 example a day, there are lessons to be learnt with every analysis you make and just imagine how much you can learn with this simple exercise over the course of a month!

3. Watch lots of videos

Most of us spend hours consuming online videos every week, what if you spend a fraction of that time watching videos that help you better your content marketing approach? Watch videos that help you to write better, create better designs/videos or even pick up a new skill that can value-add your work as a content marketer.
